Tuesday was kind of rough in our little corner of the world. While tropical storm Ida was making landfall on the Gulf Coast, her outer bands were visiting us. We had rain all day Tuesday and Tuesday night. In the early morning hours Wednesday we began to get wind driven rains with gusts up to 45 mph. At 8:30 Wednesday morning our rain gauge had registered 6.5 inches in the preceding 24 hours. I've weathered a few hurricanes, but sure didn't expect the weather we experienced here in Ninety Six, SC.

Anyway, yesterday we awoke to a soggy bedroom carpet. That's not so good when your bedroom is on the 2nd floor. Then we noted some wet spots on the ceilings in the living room and our garage. UhOh.........Nationwide, please be on our side!!!

Called the claims center and yesterday received our first visit from a "remediation specialist."
Don't worry, says he........it'll all look like new when we get finished. OK, now we get to today. They're not finished with the remediation (Drying Out) and we've been advised we will be running dehumidifiers and fans until Monday.

8:15 a.m. The infamous rain guage, yesterday morning it registered 6 1/2 inches

8:20 a.m. All the bedroom furniture is pulled to the center of our bedroom...we're sleeping in the guestroom now

8:25 a.m. If we hadn't moved furniture, this is where the bed sits in our bedroom. The remediation folks have this monster dehumidifier running. 8:30 a.m. This is the ceiling in the garage. The insulation was soaked and we have fans and dehumidifiers running here, also.

8:55 a.m. Life goes on, our flowers did enjoy the rain, and some weathered the wind, too.

8:57 a.m. Our Brown-eyed Suzie vine is still putting out many flowers.
9:00 a.m. Ahh Mums. Diane counts on them for our front porch steps every fall.
4:40 p.m. Last year I showed a picture of our neighbors old barn. That came down last week and this is replacing it. I'm gonna miss the old one because it was the backdrop for some really neat pictures.

4:45 p.m. 6 1/2 inches of rain raised our lake over two feet. (Takes a lot of water to raise a lake 32 miles long and 1 mile wide two feet.) It's now raised enough that they are opening the flood gates at the dam tonight.

4:50 p.m. We're headed to the Chamber of Commerce for a meeting. This is at the entrance of our sub-division.

5:10 a.m. A mural painted on the entrance wall of our Chamber.

7:35 p.m. Back home and Curious Annie Kitty is here to greet us.

It was raining when I got up this morning and it hasn't quit yet. So far, we've had 2 1/2 inches. But, 12 of 12 must go on if at all possible. I thought I'd take you on a brief tour of our little town of Ninety Six. Before I did, I tried to get the animals to go out and do their "business."

10:37 a.m. Annie, the curious kitty, ignoring my pleas to go out.

10:40 a.m. Drizzling and overcast out there.10:40 a.m. Here I stand out in the rain, the puppies are dry on the porch and refusing to join me.

11:12 a.m. This is our town's Fire Alarm and Tornado Alert Siren. I'm surprised that the Siren hasn't gone off the way the skys are looking.

11:15 a.m. The sign says it all, "Welcome To Ninety Six."

11:17 a.m. It's Columbus Day so our Town Hall is closed.
11:21 a.m. Our Town's Gazebo is on Main Street
11:25 a.m. The Norfolk-Southern Railway used to run through Ninety Six. The old road bed is now the Town Trail.
11:30 a.m. This is the old Ninety Six Railway Depot. It is now used as the Senior Center and also is rented out for meeting, reunions, etc.
11:35 a.m. Our town's fountain. These rocks did not come out of our yard. (Though they could have.)
11:40 a.m. The Ninety Six Visitor Center. That's also the home of the Ninety Six Chamber of Commerce (where my wife, Diane, works,) and the Historic Ninety Six Development Association.

11:41 a.m. This is the main entrance to the Visitor Center. The building was designed to complement the old Depot.

Well, that was your tour of the Town of Ninety Six. There's a lot more to share including some beautiful old homes which we will do on a future 12 of 12.

For the past week we've seen no rain here in Ninety Six. Yesterday we set a heat record and hit 100 degrees. This morning we awoke to a cloudy and overcast day with a forecast of temperatures in the low 80's. I had good intentions of working in the yard, but the bottom dropped out. As you can see from this guage, we did get a bit of rain. (2 inches to be exact.)

11:45 a.m. The rain has stopped for now.

11:47 a.m. We name our plants after special people. "Gigi" and "Ruth" are Altheas that sit outside our screen room. This is "Gigi."11:48 a.m. This is our "Ruth."11:55 a.m. Our Lantana is a favorite with the butterflies and it sits outside our front door.12:45 p.m. We had a bit more shower and that's brightened up our garden a bit more. This is one of our Crepe Myrtles.12:50 p.m. Crepe Myrtles come in pink, too. 12:53 p.m. Lots of neat looking fence lines around this lake. In my opinion, this is one of the better views. 3:55 p.m. I've planted a lot of plants, trees, flowers, etc. at our house here in the foothills of South Carolina. Every time you dig, you're guaranteed at least one (maybe two or three) rocks. Here's one:4:20 p.m. One of the goldfish saw me coming to feed them. Right after I dropped their food they all came to the surface but the rain started again and I ran for cover. 7:20 p.m. Yummee, Asparagus salad is on the menu for dinner.Smothered Country Steak and Rice is on the menu, too.8:15 p.m. Another beautiful South Carolina sunset viewed from our front deck.8:35 p.m. Bonus Picture of Annie, the curious kitty, wanting to know if I intend to disturb her peace and comfort.Thanks for allowing me to share this day. Oh my gosh, I really let this slip up on me today. Spent time working in the yard, watched the PGA on TV and totally forgot 12 of 12 until my sister said she'd done hers.

Corky was lax! I ran out in the yard and commenced to snapping pictures, then jumped on the golf cart and proceeded about the neighborhood. Following is my desperate attempt to satisfy the 12 of 12 gods.

6:16 p.m. My monthly picture of the Curious Kitty, Annie. We lost another Annie a while back and she's kinda reincarnated in this cat.

6:20 p.m. We moved to SC from Georgia and when we came, we brought some of Jekyll Island with us, this Canna Lilly is one of the items.

6:22 p.m. This Crepe Myrtle bloom is from the tree just outside our screen room.

6:35 p.m. Bouncing around the neighborhood in the golf cart, we see the neighbor's Crepe Myrtle. I don't think it's as pretty as ours.6:40 p.m. Look closely, you'll see the duck is swiming up to a turtle on a log in the pond.
6:50 p.m. Just an interesting picture of a fence running down the side of a yard. The drop is about 50 feet to the lake at this point.
6:55 p.m. The neighbor's tomato plants. They are full of tomatoes. 7:00 p.m. Our tomato plants. We had to move them up to the porch because the deer were cropping them for us.7:25 p.m. Remember that duck in the pond? Here he is headed across our yard to the Big Lake.

7:30 p.m. I ran to the front yard to catch the duck as he continued on his walk, he must have gotten tired and flew. Anyway, now you see where we live.

7:40 p.m. The neighbor's Martin House. They do a good job on the mosquitos.

7:45 p.m. Our goldfish pond and one of our many Mermaids. One day I'll do a 24 of 12 and show them all.8:40 p.m. Bonus Shot. Good night from Ninety Six, SC, y'all.
